How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my business?

You can’t submit your business to ChatGPT. It recommends businesses it can find through web search, read on their own site and confirm on other sites. Let AI crawlers in, state what you do, where and for whom in plain text, keep your listings identical everywhere, and get named on the lists and review sites AI cites.

How ChatGPT picks a business

With search on, ChatGPT searches the web, reads a handful of pages and summarizes them. Those pages are often directories, “best of” lists and review sites rather than your own site. It favors businesses that several sources agree on. Answers vary from run to run.

What to fix, in order

  1. Let it in. OAI-SearchBot decides whether you can appear in ChatGPT search answers; GPTBot is for training only. No bot check should turn them away. Check free; details in How do I let AI crawlers like ChatGPT access my site?
  2. Say it plainly on your site. Give each service its own page, with your service area, prices or a price range, hours and contact details as text, not only in images. Put the answer first.
  3. Add structured data for your business type, built from facts on the page. See Does schema markup help my business show up in AI answers?
  4. Keep your facts identical everywhere: your website, Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yelp and industry directories. See Why does AI give the wrong hours for my business?
  5. Get named where AI looks. Ask ChatGPT your customer’s question, open its sources and get listed on those pages. See Why does ChatGPT recommend my competitor instead of me?
  6. Answer the questions customers ask, on your own pages, in their words.

How to test it

Ask 5 customer questions without your name, in a fresh chat with search on, and note who’s named. Repeat monthly. The full method is at How can I check if AI chatbots are recommending my competitors?

What doesn’t work

Paying for “AI submission”, stuffing keywords, and fake reviews. Fake reviews are illegal under the FTC’s rule on consumer reviews and testimonials, and AI tools read the same review sites people do.

What Preferly shows you

The free check asks 3 AI models 5 customer questions. The full report asks 10 models 8 questions, names every competitor and the sources AI cited for them, shows where AI contradicts your website, and ends in a fix plan.

Questions

Can I pay ChatGPT to recommend my business?

No. ChatGPT’s answers aren’t for sale. OpenAI shows ads to some users on ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans, labelled as ads and kept apart from the answer. Being recommended in the answer itself comes from what ChatGPT can find and confirm about you.

How long does it take?

There’s no fixed time. Changes to your own site can show up within days once crawlers revisit it. Getting named on other sites takes longer, often weeks to months. Check the same questions monthly.

Does my Google ranking matter for ChatGPT?

Partly. ChatGPT runs its own search, so a Google ranking doesn’t carry over one for one, but the pages that rank well for a question are often the ones AI reads.

Does ChatGPT read my Google reviews?

Not as a direct feed. It reads review sites and pages that quote reviews when they come up in its search. Keep your listings complete and current.
